Niko Lazarakopoulos is a greek young musician who lives in Stuttgart, Germany. He's the former drummer of german team MA CHERIE FOR PAINTING (Earworm records) who recorded 3 albums and a flock of singles for european and american labels such as Roisin, Rocket Racer, Alice in Wonder, Botroop-boy and their own Taping desk / Ophon.
His solo project is nicely titled Velvet first floor, and his cd for DCR is a debut masterpiece. Wooden guitars, melancholic vocals and the 'near bone' arrangements. Niko always tries to twist his songs, to let them run out of their tracks, like wild horses. Samples, keyboards soundscapes, uncommon analog sounds make this debut album so special.
Not vey far from Jim O'Rourke, David Grubbs or Flying Saucer Attack's works, you'll discover VFF's interstellar folk galaxy.
Décidément, voici encore un bien étrange patchwork musical auquel tous les mordus de Flying Saucer Attack et de Gastr Del Sol devraient réserver un accueil plus que chaleureux. Pratiquant une mixité étourdissante entre cultures, instruments et influences musicales, le garnement se cachant derrière ce patronyme n’est autre que l’Allemand Niko, déjà fiché au solénopole, pour activisme « post-rock » au sein du groupe Ma Chérie For Painting. En compagnie de membres du groupe breton Tank, il nous fait partager de façon convaincante ses visions free-folk hallucinées. Ainsi, est né de cette coalition inédite un album aux harmonies évanescentes. Un album trouble et capricieux nourris de guitares acoustiques et de samples indéfinis qui, tout en échappant aux classifications en vigueur, mérite notre plus grande considération. www.solenopole.org
